Long-time readers will know that I have struggled with how to balance this blog and my social media presence (what to post where, when to cross-post, which channels are good for what) since Twitter began its long demise in about 2015.

Late last year, I tried something new, splitting out my occasional "Briefly Noted" posts from the main blog and giving them their own Substack at foundhistory.substack.com. That has been productive, but it has left this space a little quiet. And because those post are well, brief, the split has left the Substack a little impoverished.

Now I'm going to try something new again. Some of you may know that I have been working on a new book: a history of digital culture for a trade nonfiction audience. I'll have more news on the book soon, but suffice it for now to say that writing for a broader audience has been invigorating, and I want to do more of it.

Substack is the natural place to reach a more general readership, so from now on I'll be posting my writing on history, science, technology, and digital culture over there. This space will transition into more of a personal website, but I'll keep the blog as an archive of past writing and for occasional new posts of an "inside baseball" character: commentary on higher education, transcripts of talks, thoughts on digital humanities, experiments in tool building, etc.

I am very grateful for the many years some of you have spent with me here. I hope you'll stick with me. And if the history of science and technology is your cup of tea, I hope you'll join me over on Substack too.
